Broad shoulders and a stout figure, with a fierce beard and glaring eyes—this was the most terrifying image from my childhood. It was the Zhong Kui from the temple, an image that overlapped with my father’s imposing presence. To overcome the shadows of my childhood, I use the mask of Zhong Kui to ward off evil, fighting darkness with darkness.
