YUNG-CHIEH WU

This collection was inspired by the documentary No Other Land, which portrays the real stories of people who lost their homes and were forced into displacement after war. The film depicts destroyed homes, forced evacuations, violence and killings, as well as the resistance of local communities.

I was particularly moved by the feeling of people who were “walking, yet had no real land beneath their feet.” It led me to ask: When someone loses their land and their home, what can they carry with them as they continue moving forward?

For displaced people, clothing is not merely a means of covering or protection. It can become a shelter for those in exile—a temporary home for refugees. Therefore, this collection takes “a home that can be carried” as its central concept, exploring how clothing can provide greater comfort and practicality for displaced people. I hope the collection goes beyond simply presenting the refugee crisis, and instead reveals the resilience of people who continue to survive and move forward after losing their sense of security.

Layered structures, functional pockets, detachable components, and body-enveloping silhouettes are extensively incorporated. Images of refugees carrying their belongings through displacement are transformed into garments, creating the sensation of carrying necessities on the body, or even of wearing one’s home.
