Hui-Mei Cheng is a dedicated scholar in patternmaking and costume culture research, with profound expertise in garment silhouettes, human body structure, and draping techniques. Her academic focus extends to the study and documentation of ethnic costumes and traditional crafts. She teaches courses such as Computer Pattern Grading, Chinese Costume History, and Garment Construction Techniques.  


Professor Hui-Mei has long been committed to the collection and research of traditional clothing, with a particular interest in cultural heritage and sustainable fashion issues. She has published over 20 books, including A Blue Shirt, Hakka Embroidered Flowers, A Study of Hakka Floral Patterns, Confucian-Style Wedding Attire: Research and Design, Classical Fashion: The Splendor of Weaving and Embroidery, and Craftsmanship Series: Weaving, Embroidery, and Dyeing Techniques. Her work integrates collections and research into her teaching, inspiring students to explore humanistic care, cultural preservation, and innovative development.  


In addition to her academic contributions, Hui-Mei has earned numerous honors for her creative endeavors. These include the Excellence Award in the 2021 National Firefighter Uniform Redesign Competition, the Outstanding Paper Award in the Fashion Design category at the 2022 Taiwan Textile Research Conference, and the Grand Prize for Traditional Costume Recreation at the 30th International Costume Congress (ICC) in 2024.
