Hsin-Ping Chiang

Technical Designer

Hi, I’m Jiang Xin-Ping. I graduated in 2016 from the Department of Fashion Design at Shih Chien University. After graduation, I joined the pattern-making department at Eclat Textile Co., Ltd., where I worked as a computer pattern assistant for a year and a half. During this time, I accumulated solid pattern-making skills and foundational experience in fitting adjustments. It was also during this period that I was introduced to the role of a technical designer. I realized that, although often overlooked, this role is indispensable in the fashion industry. A technical designer is responsible for ensuring the construction, sizing, and fit of each style, solving problems along the way, and collaborating closely with designers. Their work also directly impacts production. This understanding sparked my strong interest in the role.

After leaving Eclat, I joined Condi Co., Ltd. as a technical designer. Here, I applied my prior pattern-making experience along with the sewing techniques, print design knowledge, knitting fundamentals, and basic garment fitting concepts I had learned at Shih Chien. Through this, I continued to grow professionally and, in 2021, became a certified TD for POLO Ralph Lauren, gaining the qualification to approve sample garments independently.

Looking back, much of my progress is rooted in the foundational knowledge I gained through elective courses at Shih Chien. With these fundamentals, I was able to navigate challenges and extend my skills effectively. I’m grateful for all that I learned at Shih Chien and excited to continue advancing in the ready-to-wear industry!

Educational Highlight

Entering the ready-to-wear industry, I benefited greatly from Professor Feng Zi-Lan’s garment pattern-making course and Professor Chen Min-Hua’s industry-academia collaboration course.

The garment pattern-making course made me realize that the fashion industry isn’t only about designer brands; the ready-to-wear lines that keep brands running are actually the mainstay. This course clearly explained the foundational concepts of ready-to-wear, which helped me transition smoothly into the industry.

As for the industry-academia collaboration course, Professor Chen Min-Hua is a highly accomplished instructor with deep knowledge of the fashion industry. She taught me that every product submitted in the industry forms the basis for many subsequent processes, and that we must take full responsibility for and understand the work we submit. This principle has become the guiding standard for my work in the industry.

Behind fashion lies a vast industry chain. Beyond design, there are many specialized areas that require attention and understanding. Don’t limit yourself to what you think you “should” do—find the parts you truly enjoy, learn them, and strive to do your best. That is what suits you best.

See what others have to say....

The diverse curriculum at Shih Chien gave me a solid understanding of various areas while also cultivating the ability to think independently and solve problems on my own. This has become a major advantage in the industry, allowing me to explore different roles and discover the ones I truly enjoy and fit best.
