Design Assistant

I graduated from SCFD in 2024 and currently work as an Assistant Designer at a garment trading company. After graduation, my first job was as a Design Assistant at a designer studio. It was my first real experience of the design industry, and it taught me that bringing an idea to life requires not only creativity, but also attention to detail, patience, and the ability to follow through.

A year later, I moved to a garment trading company, where I became involved in a more complete product development process and began working across different teams. From developing design concepts and samples to communicating with colleagues, I gradually came to understand that design is not simply about creative expression—it is also about bringing resources together, solving problems, and responding to the needs of the market.

Looking back, my experience at SCFD gave me a solid foundation for my career. Beyond professional knowledge and design skills, I developed independence, time-management skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. These have all become incredibly valuable when facing challenges at work and have helped me continue learning and growing in a fast-changing environment.

I haven’t been out of university for very long, but every challenge and experience at work has helped me understand my direction a little better. For now, I’m still exploring different possibilities and building experience with an open mind. Through each new opportunity, I hope to continue developing my own design style and values while finding a career path that feels right for me.

Educational Highlight

Looking back at my time at SCFD, the third-year branding project and fourth-year graduate exhibition had the greatest impact on me.

The branding project taught me that design is about more than creating an individual piece; it is also about developing a complete brand concept and visual language. The graduate exhibition gave me the freedom to explore my creativity and express my own identity. Together, these experiences taught me how to balance practical planning with creative thinking, providing an important foundation for my career in design.

Don’t feel like you need to have all the answers while you’re still studying, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Stay curious, try different things, and make the most of every opportunity to create and collaborate. Even the experiences that seem small at the time may become an important part of what helps you move forward in the future.
