CHINESE COSTUME MAKING

ELECTIVE COURSE

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the composition and manufacturing techniques of Chinese costumes, designed to empower students with the skills to apply these methods creatively and effectively. The curriculum delves into the origins and evolution of Chinese costume, offering insights into traditional and contemporary practices.

Students will explore detailed techniques in pattern drafting and garment construction specific to Chinese attire, including the sewing of both male and female short padded jackets and cheongsams. The course also covers the crafting of various bands and buttons, essential elements in traditional Chinese costume. By engaging with both historical and modern aspects of Chinese fashion, students will gain a well-rounded understanding of the intricate processes involved in creating these garments. This knowledge will enable them to innovate and adapt traditional techniques in their own fashion designs.
